As SmartSuite imports your SCIS data it assigns each new record a "dummy" barcode. These barcodes must be replaced before you can continue importing new data unless you have assigned each import a unique user initials.
When importing a MARC file, this file will contain all bibliographic information of the items you have purchased. But MARC Vendors (such as SCIS) do not know things like
a. Where you are putting the item in your library
b. The barcode you are assigning the item
All of this type of information must be entered by the library staff after they have imported an item.
Smart Library provides a list of all newly imported items awaiting allocation of this information through the ‘Unallocated Barcodes’ section.
Allocating Barcodes in MARC File Import
1. Login and click on the Menu button then Catalogue Then MARC File Import
2. Select Unallocated Barcords from the top of the page. This will load a table like below.
This Table allows you to change the following fields for a record.
- Call Number
Just click on the edit button to the left to make changes. Once you have made your changes click update.
Your record is now catalogued.
